Main Beach
The heartbeat of Byron Bay, Main Beach is just steps from the centre of town. With gentle waves and a lifeguard patrol, it is a safe bet for all ages. Hang around later in the day to catch works class buskers and pull up a spot on the grassy hill to enjoy a family friendly picnic spot that can’t be beaten.
Clarke’s Beach
Just a little further along the powdery sand beach is Clarke’s, a perennial family favourite. Grab a takeaway coffee and snacks from the kiosk at Beach Byron or TopShop, and set yourself up for the day. Head out with old kids to The Pass, one of Byron’s most photogenic surf spots - perfect for beginners.
Wategos Beach
Millionaire’s playground Wategos is nestled around the headlands and another insta-worthy family spot. Keep an eye out for local celebs at Rae’s while you make the most of the free BBQs and the spacious green lawn behind the sand. The more energetic family members can take a walk up to the lighthouse or throw the board in for a few waves. Keep an eye out for resident dolphins or in season, the passing humpback parade.
