5 things to do in the Byron Bay hinterland
Despite being on the doorstep of Byron Bay town, the hinterland region offers unique experiences not to be missed during your stay in Byron Bay. Here are a few of our favourites.
Chase a waterfall or two
For a water based experience with a difference, why not visit one of the many stunning waterfalls in the region? The largest is Minyon Falls - about 35 minutes from Byron via a pretty scenic rainforest drive. On the way back to town, pop into Killen Falls, or for those wanting to venture a little further, Protestor’s Falls is an easy walk through ancient World Heritage listed rainforest.
Find your zen at Crystal Castle
Set in 10 hectares of stunning gardens just 30 minutes from Byron Bay (and on the way to Minyon Falls), find this unique experience unlike any other in Australia. With two of the largest crystals found on earth, this magical sanctuary is the perfect peaceful place to slow down for a while.
Get up close to local wildlife
Owned and operated by the Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital, and just a short drive out of town, Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary provides the perfect opportunity to spend time getting up close to native Australian animals. With an emphasis on education, regeneration and rehabilitation, the sanctuary reinvests every dollar spent on the conservation and rehabilitation of Australian wildlife
Experience chef’s hat farm to table dining
Frida’s Field is a relatively new addition to the Northern Rivers dining scene, but has already been highly awarded. With a focus on paddock to plate produce, enjoy a set menu that changes seasonally, overlooking stunning rolling pastures.
Sample a local tipple
Just 15 minutes from Byron Bay, wander the local rainforest surrounds of Cape Byron Distillery with a Brookie’s gin & tonic in hand while learning about the native rainforest botanicals used to make their award-winning spirits. Finish with a guided tasting in this 2 hour experience.
